Carve your name on hearts not tombstones a legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.
These are words inscribed on our minds when we arrived at the Kololo Muslim Cemetery. All members reading the tombstones had conflicting thoughts about their own time, what will they engrave on mine what legacy will I leave behind. All these are answered in the charitable acts that you do and the way we raise our children.
Allah’s messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said “when a person dies, all his deeds cease except for these three: perpetual charity, a beneficial knowledge, and a virtuous child who invokes Allah for him”
It should be noted that Kololo Muslim Cemetery is a burial ground for Muslims divided among the Shia, Sunni and Agakhan ismalia. It was established in the late 1800. Houses graves from way back since 1800 with the first persons to bring Islam to Uganda buried here. The caretaker Hajji Muhammad welcomed us in such a hospitable manner that left us all in awe. The Patron of the environmental project Brother Kalfan introduced Islam at Work Foundation team to the caretakers and also informed them about the charitable activities we do.
Members had to make dua for the deceased following the sayings of Allah the Most High in Surah 59: Ayah 10 “Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not in our hearts rancor (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed Full of Kindness Most Merciful”.
We were led to the various places demarcated for the trees and the planting started at around 11:00 am and ended at 12:45 pm. As our mandate we strive to make the community green and reduce on the climatic changes that are affecting our planet. After the exercise the joyful faces of the caretakers and words of appreciation warmed our hearts. One said
“they have planted some mango trees cannot wait to eat these mangoes”.
A word of thanks to the management of Kololo Muslim Cemetery and we hope to visit soon to check on our trees and if possible plant more.
May Allah accept this sadaqa from all of us.
